about me

web developer by trade, IT/minor sysadmin by accident, game developer for fun, husband, father, and hopefully a kinda okay guy

projects

procon learn more

procon is an exploratory project wherein I am implementing the same small app using multiple frameworks (and potentially methodologies). It exists to broaden my horizons. I've spent the vast majority of my career in PHP + MySQL + Bootstrap and I need to get out more so here we are.

odd jobs learn more

odd jobs is a small early Fire Emblem/FFT style tactics game made with Godot. It's premise is that the jobs/classes are built around things that aren't typically found in a tactics-style game. It's a hobby project that I'm using primarily to build my skills in game development and as such, the code is freely available and will never be sold.

gnath

gnath is a strange beast. Originally envisioned as a first-person dungeon crawler it also kind of turned into a card game? I don't know. It became a victim of too many ideas, yet it lives on in my mind.

I still want to make the dungeon crawler and it will very much be in a Lovecraftian direction, but that project needs to cook a little longer.

the card gameā„¢

I've always loved card games and therefore I've always wanted to make one. My best idea yet needs more than just me to implement it, but until I can gather a group maybe I can inspire the universe to make it happen without me.

The idea is reasonably simple:

  • Make a card editor that has a constrained pixel art editor and embed a trimmed down version of Lua or a similar simple scripting language
  • Make it very easy to export and import cards individually or in a set
  • Make a configurable ruleset for battles
  • ???
  • Zero profit; just endless community creations

previous ventures

  • was on the board for my local Habitat for Humanity
  • helped restart our local community garden
  • worked towards building a game dev co-op
  • participated in a couple game jams
  • got my B.S. in C.S.

potential futures

  • make a programming language
  • contribute to the linux kernel
  • adopt an essential data source and keep unofficial backups, just in case
  • something you think is cool that I can help with
